2011 MainStreet Milestones

It has been almost a year since we launched our effort to forge a Carlsbad Village MainStreet Association. I am glad to report that much progress has been made since then!

Many of you may remember that we kicked off the year with our annual meeting in January "What's in a MainStreet?" featuring our local MainStreet resource, Peder Norby, who graciously volunteered his time to present to our community. Since then, we have:

  • welcomed several new board members;
  • joined the National MainStreet Association;
  • started our Promotion Committee;
  • conducted a board/volunteer training on The MainStreet Four-Point Approach
  • have been officially designated an Aspiring MainStreet Community.

These are great milestones, but by far the greatest accomplishment this year was in submiting our proposal for the City of Carlsbad's Village Revitalization Partnership Program. It is a request for proposal that drew applicants from far and wide, but only one from a local organization already working in our community.

Our response, in partnership with the Carlsbad Chamber, is for the City to fund a robust MainStreet effort so we may continue to pave the way toward a vibrant business, retail, arts and entertainment district that serves a broad range of residents and visitors.

So now, we are asking for your support! As Carlsbad Village community members, we all have a stake in creating a thriving MainStreet effort to support revitalization efforts. You can help us today by submitting your letter of support to be delivered to the City appointed committee that will select the winner of the RFP process. We need you to submit your letters in short order, as we are going in for the final interview on December 20. We are also currently accepting applications for our upcoming board election.

Click here for a copy of the support letter and/or board application.

We are always glad to welcome new volunteers. Let us know if you are interested in volunteering for one of our committees.

Sincerely,
Jay Corrales, Board President
Carlsbad Village Association
